Well, this is a more serious post for myself to be writing. I have been wanting to talk about this subject for a while now on my blog and I thought that after today’s events in America it would be the perfect time for me to voice my opinion.
Being gay and being very passionate about LGBT+ rights I was appalled this morning when I saw the news that Donald Trump had BANNED Transgender individuals from serving in the US military… These were his exact words:
This is an amazing example of why we need to celebrate what we have and who we are. We should be proud to be ourselves and that is what our pride events are all about, marching and celebrating that we can be ourselves in our country. For some pride events may be a place where they can be themselves in every way and feel like no one is judging them.
I am lucky enough to have family and friends around me who support me no matter what but not everyone in the LGBT community is that lucky. The statistics out there about LGBT individuals who suffer from mental health issues are so heartbreaking and the rates of homelessness and suicide all because they are LGBT.
All in all, I think pride is a very important event in the LGBT community calendar so why not go along to your local pride event as an ally and support your local LGBT community you never know someone you know might see you and that might be the one little glimmer of hope they have that someone they know accepts them and their sexuality.
I will be attending Pride Glasgow this year August 19th and 20th if you are thinking of coming along and have any questions or just want to say hi give me a message on any of my social media and I am happy to talk about it!
I believe that Equality is so very important in society.
